Spode Silver Luster Cup

This is a Spode silver luster and gilt coffee cup and saucer. This is known as the bute shape of cup, and the shape of the handle gives it away as Spode, although it is unmarked--not unusual for early Spode wares. It is also almost feather light, typical of Spode. The mirror finish on these pieces is astonishing, despite scattered spots of wear. The design is confident and controlled.
