St. Petersburg Gardener Figurine

This is a rare original period figurine called the Gardener made by the State Porcelain Factory in Leningrad ( Used to be St. Petersburg Imperial factory ) in Soviet Russia in 1928. These Russian figurines from this period are quite rare and sought after! This figure was modelled by Alexander Terentewitsch Matweew in 1926. Unlike some of his other models this one of the gardening lady with vegetables in her apron is very rare. I have however sold one in better condition before. The figure is superbly modeled and hand painted and one of those pieces that just 'speaks' to you. Just amazing! The piece is of a lady gardener or peasant wearing a nicely painted cloth over her hair while picking beets or radishes or something along those lines which she placed in her apron. A watering can by her side on a nicely painted base. The detail of the painting is amazing and looking at this piece one can understand why these pieces are so popular! The figure is in OK condition. The greenery of the vegetables has been restored quite well, The watering can was restored at the handles and is missing the entire spout section, the apron tip she is holding in her left hand should be draped over a bit longer and the back of her hat covering is missing one of the ends. Some fine crazing throughout and a firing line on her left should side. An easy fix for a good restorer and this examples is a lot cheaper than the one in better condition I already sold. So it is easily worth the cost of having her brought back to perfection! The figurine is marked underneath with the impressed hammer and sickle mark with the piece of cog and 1928 (a rare anniversary mark) as shown. Also an impressed square with the artist initials in it. The figurine is larger than most being 10.125 inches tall, 3.75 inches wide and 2.625 inches deep. If you collect these pieces she is a must have!
