Bayeux Lidded Box

This is a box made by Bayeux around 1848 during the period of Sophie and Jenny Langlois . This was my longest standing mystery piece and with a little luck I finally figured it out for sure. Picture of another one in the acticle and picture attached. The mark underneath has long been determined to be a fake or later addition as this box has been looked at by quite a few museums over the years. Not sure if the mark might be original but I have not seen it used by Bayeux! The box is handpainted with Asian people wearing different outfits that are made in relief all around the outside of the box. Extremely well done and detailed. The top of the box has a man sitting on a pillow as a finial and there are birds and butterflies in relief around the outside lid. Nice gold trim copying the look of bamboo. The feet are also in the Asian style and handpainted in green and purple colors. This box is in super condition with the finial head reglued. A bit of wear to the gold that is to be expected and a small chip to the inside back of one foot of the base. The piece is marked with a Limbach, Wallendorf type blue crossed swords mark in overglaze blue but it is not Limbach or any other Thuringia maker nor Meissen, etc. and the mark is likely a later addition. The box and lid are 6.25 inches tall, 7 inches wide and 5.875 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
