Wallendorf Black Scenic Lidded Cup & Saucer

This is a rare lidded cup and saucer made by Wallendorf around 1790. Both the cup and the saucer are handpainted with a nice scene in shades of black of buildings in a landscape surrounding. Eachs cene has a black and gold frame around it with a small gold leaf design to the sides. Gold trim to the edges and the lid.The handles on the cup and lid are typical for the classical period and one of my favorite shapes. The set is in great condition with a bit of wear to the gilding and the saucer has a tight hairline to the rim as shown. Does not distract from the piece at all! The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.25 inches in diameter. The cup is 2.375 inches tall and the same in diameter. The lid is 2.5 inches in diameter and 0.625 inches in height. Both the cup and the saucer are marked with the underglaze blue W mark as shown. Lidded cups are hard to find sicne the lids are almost always lost! Please email me for more information or photos.
