Set of Six Weesp Cups & Saucers

Over the years I have found some really superb porcelain among them some of the rarest makers in the World but these cups are certainly even special among these pieces. They are definitely very special and one of my new favorites. These are six handleless tea cups and saucers made by Weesp around the beginning of the factory (about 1760). The past is still greyish and not the later glassy white paste. Weesp was founded by Count Gronsveldt Diepenbroek in the late 1750's or early 1760's depending what book you believe in and was around till the late 1760's. So not a very long time :) A lot of books dismiss this maker as nothing special but these cups give you plenty of argument material against this as I have rarely seen anything better at all even from Meissen. The cups and saucers are handpainted with one still life type scene on each including a basket full of flowers, some fruit and a bird sitting on gold rococo scrolling underneath the scene. The rest of the cups and saucers have some small insects, flowers and/or fruit strewn around as well as a gold trim to the rims. The cups and saucers are in amazing condition with one cup having a minor rim chip, there are some firing flaws (black spots mainly - nothing bad at all!) and the gold rim on the top edges are worn. The saucers have some wear mainly to the gold scrolling in the centers. Really in amazing condition all around and the gilding is an easy, cheap and quick fix if necessary. All pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords Meissen type mark with the three extra dots. All the saucers I believe also have incised marks mainly a W but also a few other marks and one cup has some incised marks as well. The cups are 1.75 inches tall and 3.125 inches in diameter. The saucers are 1.25 inches tall and 5.5 inches in diameter. If you want more pictures just email me! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
