Wuerzburg Cup & Saucer

This is a very rare cup and saucer made in Wuerzburg, German between 1775 and 1780. Würzburg in Franconia was founded by Johann Caspar Geyger ( Geiger ) for the prince bishop of Wurzburg and Bamberg Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim . This is one of the rarest of the German makers since they only existed for about 5 years - there are about 150 pieces made by them known. They made hard paste as did all the German makers and the cup and saucer look very much like they were made by Nymphenburg in terms of style and painting. Each has a basket weave design to the paste along the rim and is hand painted with a nice floral arrangements as well as smaller single flowers. The cup has a nice scroll handle to it which is typical of this maker. Not the most interesting cup in the world but as rare as they come! The cup and saucer are both in great condition with some minor wear and some minor firing flaws but they display perfectly! Both pieces are marked with the impressed W under an impresed mark that is always described as indicepherable but on these pieces here it is clear that the bottom part is a horse and the top part seems to be initials which I am assuming are probably AFS or something like that for the prince bishop. The cup is 1.625 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and has a diameter of 5.25 inches. Please email me for more information or photos.
