Wurzburg Scenic Saucer

This is a very rare saucer made in Wuerzburg , German between 1775 and 1780. Würzburg in Franconia was founded by Johann Caspar Geyger ( Geiger ) for the prince bishop of Wurzburg and Bamberg Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim . This is one of the rarest of the German makers since they only existed for about 5 years - there are about 150 pieces made by them known. They made hard paste as did all the German makers. The rim of the saucer has a basket weave design to the paste and is hand painted with a superb scene in the center with some nice puce scrolls udnerneath. Three small flowers around the well edge and a gold trim to the edge of the saucer. A really nice piece and as rare as they come! The saucer is in superb condition with some minor wear to the gilding. It is marked with the impressed W under an impressed shield type mark with the bottom part being a horse and the top part seems to be initials which I am assuming are probably AFS or something like that for the prince bishop. The saucer is just over 1 inch tall and has a diameter of 5.375 inches. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $1249
