Herend 1910 Bird Scene Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by Herend in 1910. They made their best stuff in the mid 19th century until right about this period. Much nicer than the modern stuff in terms of hand painting and quality of the details. The set is handpainted with some superb bird scene design reminiscent of the Rothschild Bird Motif but with just a single large bird instead of two smaller ones. The rest of each set has some scattered butterflies to it, a basket weave design to the paste along the rim and some gold trim to the edge. The handle on the cup is in the shape of a branch with leaves and a flower at the top terminal. Not sure if this is an early version of the Rothschild pattern which was first designed around 1860 or if it is totally unrelated but either way is is one superb cup and saucer by them! Both pieces are marked underneath with their blue shield under the crown mark with 1910 as the year mark. The saucer also has the imressed Herend mark as shown. The set is in great condition with a scratch to the paint along the bottom of the handle and some tiny black firing inclusions to the inside of the cup. They display perfectly and are just superb! The cup is a bit over 2 inches tall and 3.375 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
